If you haven’t gotten on the Netflix train yet, I highly recommend that you do. It’s 100% worth it. If you’re Netflix obsessed and looking for new shows to watch, here’s what I recommend for 2020:
01. Outlander
This one is by far my favorite show of all time, and many other’s favorite as well. A Scotland-based series featured from HBO, an English (married) nurse from the year 1945 finds herself back in the 18th century fending for herself. After tending to the soldiers of WWII, she meets James Frazier of 1743, and faces difficult decisions between her old life in the future and her new life in the past.
02. Ozark
Featuring Jason Bateman, The Byrde family finds themselves working for the cartel after the father’s job as a financial advisor goes wrong. They end up moving to the Ozarks, and face new challenges each day to stay alive, undetected, and money flowing for their boss. This show is one that’ll have you on the edge of your seat, unwilling to stop watching until the very end. Season three is now available, though I highly recommend starting from one.
03. Tiger King
This seven part documentary is one that has constantly hit the Netflix Top 10 list since it came out. The story line only goes from strange to stranger. Based on real life, Tiger King goes into the fued between Tiger owner’s Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin. Neither groups are either “good”, but they sure to love their tigers. After many years of fueding, who will “win”? P.S… did Carole kill her husband?
04. Love is Blind
As Netflix’s latest dating reality show, this series has people dating in “pods” – unable to see each other before their proposal. When they’ve found their person, the couples will meet, and then be forced to put their relationship to the test. If they stand the test of time, they get married at the altar. So find out.. who will tie the knot, and who will be dumped at the altar? In my personal opinion, I like it better than the Bachelor now… and that’s saying A LOT.
05. Locke & Key
This is one of the best undetected shows on Netflix. (Don’t you love finding a diamond in the rut?) The Locke family finds themselves moving back into their father’s old house after passing away from a tragic murder. Little do they know – this historic family home is filled with many secrets, including hidden keys that allow different kinds of magic. While being forced to deal with a demon, the Locke siblings are forced to defend their family’s newly found secrets.
06. Grace and Frankie
In this comical series featuring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, two women about to retire find their husbands of 40+ years to be gay and wanting to marry. Both men were lawyers together most of their career, and have shared a beach house that they’ve decided to let their wives have. Grace and Frankie are forced to move in together and become best friends- despite their opposite personalities. Watch this hilarious comedy as these two women (and their husbands) navigate starting their new lives over at 70.
07. Greater
This is the first and only movie on top 10 list. I’m a “series” kind of person, but I couldn’t exclude this one. Based on real life athlete Brandon Burlsworth, considered the greatest NFL walk on of all history, this movie discusses the life of a “not-good-enough” athlete and the challenges he faced on his way to becoming a starting player for the Indianapolis Colts. From walking on at University of Arkansas to his tragic ending, Brandon was able to leave his mark on people, the University, and football history. His story is one of hard work, consistency, and triumph – an inspiration to all with a dream that come after his time.
08. Dexter
Dexter Morgan, an undetected serial killer, works for the Miami police as a blood expert analysis. This crime series takes you on the journey of his life and the two worlds he lives in as both a husband, and father, and seriously murderer. If it makes you feel any better, he only kills bad people. Don’t get me wrong, this guy is sick in the head, but following his life, you understand why the way he is. Give it 2 or 3 episodes, and you’ll be hooked.
09. The Circle
Though this nears the end of my list, it still deserves to be on the list. This reality based series is about a small group of people (less than 8) that get to know each other via tv messages. They’re all in the same building, but can’t meet. Each week, the “influencers” (two most liked people based upon votes) vote someone out – obviously trying to get rid of the catfishes along the way. In the end, the person who survives it all and is the most liked will win $50,000. This show is all about strategy, personality, and the unlikely friendships they find along the way.
10. You
This quick thriller series is about a charming yet dangerous man named Will. All he wants is to find love, but is a bit of a stalker with his girlfriends, and always taking his obsession too far. Little do they know, he often ends up killing them. As he struggles to be normal inside his head, he also struggles to stay away from them. Follow him throughout his first two seasons as he tries to maintain his psychotic behavior.
So there you have it – the top 10 list of shows to watch in 2020. Take your bored quarantined self to the couch, and get ready to be hooked on these new shows.
